Archival historyThis silk was issued to the British comrades who travelled to Moscow in August 1930 to take part in a Special Commission appointed to discuss the British party. It was made of silk for easy concealment and disposal. The members of the British party were David Proudfoot, Scotland; RW Robson, London; Len Jefferys, South Wales; Edmund Frow, Lancashire, together with Rose Smith, Lily Webb, Harry Pollitt, William Gallacher and William Rust. They travelled from London to Leningard on a Russian boat. The Captain spoke perfect English and he held a debate with Emrys Hughes who was one of the passengers. In Moscow the Commission met Manuilsky and had a long discussion with him. The sittings of the Commission took two to three weeks, but it was not considered successful. A futher Commission sat in 1932 and produced The January Theses.
