Scope and ContentFrom M. Dorothy George, 'Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires in the British Museum', XI, 1954:
Below the title: 'In commemoration of His glorious achievement on the 23rd day of April 1831, over the host of obnoxious Vermin that have so long devoured the substance of an Industrious People!!! To the not-right honourable the Boroughmongers, of the British Empire, this sketch is most respectfully dedicated, by their most humble, and very obliged servant Julio Severo'. A dog with the head of William IV frowning to the right, stands with his fore-paws on the largest rat, which has the head of Wellington and says: 'It is all over with us now & the day is theirs'. In his mouth is a rat with head of Peel, calling 'Police!'. A third has been torn in half, its head (Lyndhurst's) says 'I'm for Reform'. A dying rat with Cumberland's head says: 'Am I come to the-e Grave'-s at last'. Londonderry wearing a hussar busby, squats on his hind legs as if begging: L---ry's Lord will ne'r again question thy Sovereign Will'. Across the pit a string is stretched on which plump rats are strung by the neck; three wear mitres, the others wear coronets. Over a low barrier (left) leans Brougham in Chancellor's wig and gown. He says: 'Go it Billy! go it my boy! dont spare those rascals'. A broom leans against the wall beside him.
