Scope and ContentWooden Factory Clock - These clocks were bought by factory owners who 'gave' them to their workers so that they had no excuse for coming to work late. A penny a week was stopped from the workers' wages until the full cost of the clock, 1 shilling and sixpence, was met. Made in America ca. 1850s. Imported to South East London. Remains of the clock sellers' label is on the back, giving part of the firm's name and its address - 66 Woolwich Road.
