Scope and ContentPersonal records of Dave Goodman (1915-2001) who founded the North Staffs Pensioners Convention in 1991. He was also chairman of Fircroft Guild which supported Fircroft College of Adult Education. George Cadbury established the college in 1909 for his workers and later it extended its services to provide access to education to those who had missed out in earlier life. Dave Goodman was born in 1915 in Middlesborough. In 1938 he joined the International Brigade to fight fascism in Spain and ended up in prison for ten months. Aged fifty he got a place at Fircroft College, after which he got a degree at Hull University. He worked as a lecturer in adult education and on retirement founded the North Staff Pensioners Convention in 1991. He also served on the National Council of the Pensioners Convention
